Naokata authored a multivolume, woodblock-printed picture book about medicinal plants in 1846. Its title was Kohō Yakuhin Kō (Study of Ancient Medicines). The pictures were drawn by more than one hundred artists who were active at the time. They drew the shapes of their picture subjects accurately but only colored them in shades of gray. This gallery shows the twenty-five pictures included in volume 1. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
